May 1998: 'Swamp' and 'wasteland' are just a couple of words historically used to describe salt marshes. Today, more people are beginning to recognize the value of the 'Great Marsh' that extends from Cape Ann into New Hampshire. This productive ecosystem, which supports up to two-thirds of all marine fish and shellfish, is being recognized with educational signs in nine coastal communities from Rockport up to Salisbury. The Eight Towns and the Bay Committee conceived the project and designed the signs. Look for them in your community!
